Hi all- here’s my rant regarding how even in a punk rock world, publicity still counts in the end. I had hired our old publicist from my band, RUBY DEE AND THE SNAKEHANDLERS, to handle publicity for all three books, launch by launch, but she fell off the face of the earth, and never did one thing for any of the books. I was in the thick of touring, reading, doing interviews that I had set up, working and living, so was unable to chase down someone new. I also kept thinking, ‘oh she’ll eventually hit me with a barrage of interviews and reviews’. But they never came.
So now I am interviewing for a new publicist. The problem is that there is a strict timeline for publicity: you should really hire someone months before the first book release, as most reviewers/interviewers don’t want to look back over their shoulders to talk about what’s already out. They want to review what’s coming. Nothing can be done to change what’s gone already, so…
I am heading back into the studio to record book #2 TRICKY BUSINESS for audio book. So that could help. And really, the books are interesting, and fun, and unique. So there’s that. I feel like I’m scrambling here, trying to salvage what could have been done already. But also, I’m just doing more of that DIY do what you can do and see what can be done. So there’s THAT. 🙂
So now we spin in place and see what happens next…
